Recently, I embarked on an extraordinary meditation journey about time-shifting, led by Adam White from Mental Coding.
It took me, much like Bilbo Baggins, there and back again.
During the session, I was guided through portals to meet different versions of myself. This meditation was more than just a practice in mindfulness; it was an unexpected journey of deep introspection and healing.
A standout visual for me became the portals.
At first, the portals kept changing forms, at times resembling the watery event horizon of a Stargate, or the fantastical wormholes depicted in the Expeditionary Force series, even echoing the swirling magical portals from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But these varying images resolved before long... Clearly, I could see a golden circle of light, but it looked like I could see it painted with brushstrokes ... it was quite striking, and also very beautiful.
When I repeated the meditation live again that same night, I saw the same version of the portal each time. I was, for some reason, so happy about this!
Reflecting on my experiences during the session, I shared them in the chat; here’s a snippet:
...going through the portals and merging (for all but the 1st one) caused something like full body chills... my guide was the same as this afternoon, going through the past events was more inner child stuff, taking me in the moment by the hand...
I have to admit, I was really very taken aback at the end of both sessions. Less surprised after the second one, sure - but taken aback nonetheless. It was a very moving experience for me.
And to give you a visual sense of the experience, here are some images inspired by the meditation:
Stay tuned for a detailed blog post where I'll dive deeper into this meditation, its impact on me, and how I used Generative AI to bring my meditative visualizations to life.
This is just the beginning of a series where I'll be exploring the intersections of meditation, healing, and technology. Expect personal anecdotes, insights, and maybe even some surprising discoveries.
Have you done any of these types of Somatic Experiencing exercises?
Has any imagery from them been particularly striking or memorable for you?
I’d love to hear about it, please leave a comment or use the form to send a message if you don’t want to do it publicly.
More soon.
